Soho Press Founder Dies


Laura Hruska, a co-founder and editor-in-chief of Soho Press died over the weekend following an illness. Hruska was also a novelist in her own right, writing for a time under the pen name, Laura Chapman. She wrote three published novels, A Change of Heart, Legal Relations and Multiple Choice. In 1986, along with her husband, she founded Soho Press and brought to the international stage the literary careers of Edwidge Danticat, Susan Richards, Garth Stein, and Jacqueline Winspear.

Recently, Bronwen Hruska, her daughter, took over as publisher of Soho Press. There will be a memorial for Hruska this Friday in Manhattan.
